Sabini Customers Like Environmentally Friendly Options

Floors Etc. has carried natural products for years. These have always been a draw for customers who react to harsher materials, and new choices address the increased interest in green products, Lisa said.

"We definitely have a good percentage of people who are concerned about environmental materials. It used to be that they were chemically sensitive, and now there are more (customers) who are just looking for products that are environmentally friendly," she said.

One area Lisa has seen expand is sustainable materials. Bamboo and cork flooring appeal to customers because they are better for the earth and look good, she said, and sisal rugs continue to be a popular natural choice.

She's also enthusiastic about Marmoleum, a linoleum product made completely from sustainable products including cork and linseed oils. "It's tough — it will really last and it comes in some fabulous colors," she explained.

Another trend she's seen in the last decade is a movement away from carpeting in most rooms.

"People are going more toward hard surfaces. Ten years ago your kitchen may have had tile in it but you'd still have carpet in the dining room," she said. "The hard surfaces are easier to maintain and clean, especially with kids and animals and traffic." (more to article)
